Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or glass, about 3 inches in diameter.
  6. Place about a teaspoon of jam in the center of each circle.
  7. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and pinch the edges to seal tightly.
  8. Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the water, a few at a time.
  9. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.
