- 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture and gently fold until the bread is fully coated.
- Stir in the fresh berries, reserving some for garnish if desired.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can mix in some chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
- This casserole can be prepared the night before. Just cover it and refrigerate. Bake in the morning, adding an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time.
