Description
Homemade strawberry ice cream is a delightful treat that combines fresh strawberries with rich cream and sweet sugar, resulting in a creamy, smooth dessert that’s perfect for warm days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup of sugar. Mash the strawberries slightly with a fork and let them sit for about 30 minutes to release their juices.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the mashed strawberries and their juices to the cream mixture and stir to combine.
- Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
- Scoop and serve the strawberry ice cream, garnished with fresh strawberries if desired.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, use an immersion blender to puree the strawberries before combining with the cream.
- If you don’t have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze. Stir every 30 minutes for about 3 hours until it reaches the desired consistency.
