Ingredients

  • 1 pound Breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • to taste Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.
  6. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops with a little milk.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the biscuits are baking, cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
  10. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat. Cook for an additional minute.
  11. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  12. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
  13. Serve the biscuits warm, smothered in the sausage gravy.

  • For extra flaky biscuits, avoid overworking the dough.
  • You can substitute buttermilk for the milk for a tangier flavor.
