  • Author: ushinzomr
  • Total Time: 25
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water (around 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary (or other herbs of choice)
  • Sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
  2. Add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch it out to fit the sheet.
  7. Use your fingers to create dimples all over the surface of the dough.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh herbs and sea salt.
  9. Let the dough rest for another 20-30 minutes.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can mix in garlic or other herbs into the dough before the first rise.
  • Focaccia can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
