Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 3/4 cups warm water (around 110°F)
- 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary (or other herbs of choice)
- Sea salt for topping
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
- Add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch it out to fit the sheet.
- Use your fingers to create dimples all over the surface of the dough.
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh herbs and sea salt.
- Let the dough rest for another 20-30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can mix in garlic or other herbs into the dough before the first rise.
- Focaccia can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
