- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
- Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles for toppings
- Ketchup and mustard for serving
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each).
- When the skillet is hot, place one ball of beef on the skillet and immediately smash it down with a spatula until it’s about 1/2 inch thick.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges are crispy and browned, then flip the burger.
- Add a slice of cheese on top of the burger and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Remove the burger from the skillet and place it on a toasted bun.
- Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles as desired.
- Serve with ketchup and mustard.
