A delightful and traditional poppy seed roll filled with a sweet poppy seed mixture and rolled to perfection.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup poppy seeds
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing poppy seeds, honey, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the poppy seed mixture evenly over the dough.
- Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log and pinch the seams to seal.
- Place the rolled dough seam-side down in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the roll for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.
