- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the cream)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake is cooling, prepare the cream. In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, slice it in half horizontally to create two layers.
- Spread a generous amount of whipped cream on the top of the bottom layer, then place the second layer on top.
- Top the cake with the remaining whipped cream and garnish with fresh fruit or chocolate shavings if desired.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can incorporate lemon or almond extract into the cake batter.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
- Feel free to experiment with different flavorings for the whipped cream.
