Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  3. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-4 minutes per side.
  6. Remove onion rings from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double dip the onion rings in buttermilk and breadcrumbs.
  • Use sweet onions like Vidalia for a milder flavor.
  • Store leftover onion rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
