Creamy and buttery mashed potatoes that are the perfect side dish for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream, warmed
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Place the peeled and cut potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Allow to steam for a minute to release excess moisture.
- Add the butter to the potatoes and begin mashing with a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth.
- Gradually add the warmed milk or cream, mixing until desired consistency is reached.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic or herbs like chives or parsley.
- Make sure to use room temperature butter for easier mixing.
- You can also use Yukon gold potatoes for a creamier texture.
