Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 4 cups (960ml) cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely to create a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the cooled simple syrup.
  3. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir well. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity by adding more water or lemon juice if desired.
  4. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices and mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • For a sparkling lemonade, replace some of the water with club soda or sparkling water.
