- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 6 hot dogs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix milk and egg until combined. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving enough stick for handling.
- Dip each hot dog into the cornmeal batter, making sure it’s fully coated.
- Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with mustard or ketchup.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to ensure a crispy coating.
- You can add spices to the batter for extra flavor.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauces!
