  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Juicy and flavorful, these classic smash burgers are perfect for a backyard barbecue or a quick weeknight dinner. With a crispy exterior and a tender interior, these burgers are sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of American cheese
  • Lettuce, tomato, and onion for toppings
  • Condiments of choice (ketchup, mustard, mayo)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each) and gently form them into loose balls. Do not overwork the meat.
  3. Once the skillet is hot, add the beef balls to the skillet, leaving space between each. Use a large spatula to smash each ball down into a flat patty.
  4. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes until a crust forms on the bottom, then flip the patties.
  6. Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  7. Remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest.
  8. Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet until golden brown.
  9. Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun and adding your desired toppings and condiments.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use freshly ground beef and avoid overhandling the meat.
  • Feel free to customize your toppings to your liking; other great options include pickles, bacon, or barbecue sauce.
