Description
A timeless dessert made with fresh apples and a flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 to 8 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts or homemade pie crust
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin slices.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
- Roll out the pie crust if using homemade dough. Place one crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture, making sure to distribute it evenly.
- Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
- Cover the pie with the second crust, sealing the edges by crimping them together. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- If desired, brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy your classic apple pie with vanilla ice cream!
Notes
- You can use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor.
- If the edges of the pie crust brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, and it pairs well with whipped cream or ice cream.
