  • 4 cups buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Once cooled, level the tops of the cakes if necessary. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top.
  8. Add the second layer and repeat the frosting process. Place the final layer on top and frost the entire cake with a crumb coat. Chill for 30 minutes.
  9. Decorate the cake with colored buttercream frosting using piping bags, and add fresh fruit or edible flowers for a festive touch.
