  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This air fryer blooming onion recipe gives you a crispy, golden onion with a deliciously seasoned coating. Perfect as an appetizer or snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Peel the onion and cut off the top, leaving the root intact. Make 12-16 cuts downwards into the onion, about 3/4 of the way through.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs.
  4. Dip the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s coated well. Shake off excess flour.
  5. Dip the onion into the beaten eggs, then coat it with breadcrumbs.
  6. Spray the onion with cooking spray to help it crisp up.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Place the onion in the air fryer basket and cook for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through.
  9. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add your favorite spices to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Make sure to separate the petals of the onion for an even cook.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
