A fresh and flavorful basil tomato sauce perfect for pasta, pizza, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

  4. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the chopped basil and balsamic vinegar if using. Stir to combine and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving or storing.
