  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  2. In another bowl, mix the sour cream and eggs until smooth.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
  5. In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of the batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Fry the fritters for about 2-3 minutes per side or until they are golden brown.
  8. Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying; otherwise, the fritters may absorb too much oil.
