Description
Delicious apple fritters made with sour cream for a moist, tender texture, and loaded with fresh apples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
- In another bowl, mix the sour cream and eggs until smooth.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
- In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of the batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the fritters for about 2-3 minutes per side or until they are golden brown.
- Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar while still warm and serve immediately.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying; otherwise, the fritters may absorb too much oil.
- You can add chopped nuts or raisins for extra flavor.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
